Winter Health Tips
Winter is coming.
With Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving right around the corner, we are headed into cold season. As the weather gets colder, we all spend more time inside with the windows closed and in close proximity to one another, and that is a perfect breeding ground for germs. No one likes getting knocked down for the count and losing precious work and play time to being sick, so we have compiled a list of best winter practices to help you keep going strong this winter.
Get A Full Night’s Sleep
Your body is an wonder, and most of the time it will handle all the little curve balls life can and will throw all by itself. But it does need your help. As the weather gets colder and winter germs start to circulate, make sure you are getting a full 7-9 hours of sleep at night depending on your body’s needs. A little extra sleep will go a long way to ensuring that you stay healthy this winter.
Wash Your Hands
Most Doctor’s agree that frequent hand-washing is essential to staying germ-free. Viruses and bacteria can live for hours on a things like door knobs, faucets, keyboards, and remote controls. Be sure to wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and warm water 5-6 times throughout the day and especially before eating. The less germs get in, the less likely you are to get sick.
Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet
This is important all year round, but it is especially important in the winter when you body is working harder to maintain homeostasis due to the colder weather, adjusting to changes in daylight savings time and shorter days, and combating the winter proliferation of germs. A balanced diet will give your body the essential nutrients it needs to keep your immune system firing on all cylinders.
Exercise Outdoors
Much like a healthy diet, an exercise regiment is important throughout the year, but especially during the winter. Exercising outdoors is even better as it allows your lungs to clear out the “dirty” inside air that most of us breath all day and replace it with clean, crisp outdoor air. Even a daily 15 minute walk around the neighborhood will dramatically increase your likelihood of staying healthy this winter!
