Kick off the Christmas season right by watching the Liberty Station Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony TONIGHT Wednesday, November 30th @ 6pm!!!
Grab your blankets and folding chairs and bring them to the lawn underneath the NTC’s historic 100ft Norfolk Pine where you can enjoy a display of thousands of twinkling lights and colorful ornaments while the tunes of the Surfin Santa band and an obstacle course courtesy of Kid Ventures keep the kiddos entertained.
Also grab a bite in the European-style Holiday Pop-Up Market featuring local eateries, shops, and gift-able goodies. Vendors include Moniker General, Buona Forchetta, Venissimo Cheese, The LOT, Comickaze, and more.
Liberty Station will also be hosting a toy drive for the hospital, and encourages visitors to bring an unwrapped toy to be distributed to some of the hospital’s most in-need patients.

Salute the season at Friday Night Liberty on December 2 from 5 to 9 PM. This is San Diego’s most unique fun and authentic event to find holiday gifts and experience the arts with live performances by San Diego Opera’s OPERA EXPOSED! Program, San Diego Ballet’s Nutcracker excerpts, The Pure Flamenco Store dance performances, Peace on Earth strolling carolers, Light installation and gallery exhibit from San Diego artist Benjamin Cabral and so much more! Meet working artists, enjoy dance and music performances, visit museums and galleries and explore ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. Visitors can start their stroll at the Dick Laub NTC Command Center – 2640 Historic Decatur Road and pick up a monthly program and District map.

The San Diego Watercolor Society presents “Aglow with Color”, an art exhibition juried by award-winning artist, Drew Brandish. The exhibit runs 11/30 – 12/30 at our Art Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The Opening Reception is Friday December 2nd from 5-8 pm with 95-100 original ready-to-hang paintings for sale, plus wine, food and the fellowship of other art enthusiasts. The Gallery is open Weds-Sun, 10 am – 4 pm and is free to the public.

A curated market, offering an eclectic mix of local Fashion, Hand made & Vintage gifts for all, under one roof – Brick. Hosted in a vibrant location in San Diego’s Liberty Station. Totally Family friendly with lots of free parking, rad DIY projects for the kids, food & drinks trucks, festive choir singing & lots more. It will be the perfect place to find all your Christmas & Holiday gifts & decorations whilst connecting with the community.
Our 1 day pop up Christmas Market is on December 4th, 2016 featuring 60 Local companies, from Hand Made in Oceanside surf boards, to candles hand poured in Carlsbad, to Jewelery hand made in San Diego. A bit of everything for everyone! We will also have a local florist creating a make & take Christmas wreaths, kids photo booth & DIY Christmas craft tables, local artists demonstrating their work & local carol singers. It is going to a fun Community event for all ages.

A Military Base Transformed into New Urban Mixed Use Community
The 361-acre Liberty Station community, which includes 125 acres of parks, open space and a boat channel; shopping villages and restaurants; a 28-acre civic, arts and cultural district; the nine-hole Sail Ho Golf Club; two hotels, and six schools. Nearly 350 families now reside at the pedestrian-friendly Liberty Station and dozens of companies, with hundreds of employees, are doing business here. The spirit of NTC as a celebrated, all-encompassing community lives on at Liberty Station.
The History of Liberty Station
Liberty Station was formerly known as NTC (Naval Training Center). It was first opened as a Naval facility in 1923 and it was stopped being used as an active military base in 1997 when it was designated for closure under the terms of the Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990. In May of 2000, the Navy turned the property over to the City of San Diego. Liberty Station is a collaboration between the City of San Diego Redevelopment Agency and The Corky McMillin Companies. Part of Liberty Station is designated as an Office District – this area covers 22 total acres and allows for a maximum of 380,000 square feet of office space. Over the years the buildings have been painted different colors. The original color was unpainted stucco which was a warm beige. During World War II the buildings were all painted dark green to make them less visible from the air especially at night. Eventually, they were painted a yellow/gold color and now as the buildings are being restored – they are being painted to reflect their original color a warm coral/beige.
