    San Diego is a large and diverse area with many varied neighborhoods within its borders. But which one is right for you to call home?

    This week on the San Diego Real Estate BLOG, we continue our series of BLOGS that will look at each of these neighborhoods in turn to help you decide which is the best fit for you as search for your San Diego Dream Home!!!

    Today we head north from North Park to Hillcrest.

     


     

    Location

    Hillcrest is bordered on the northwest by Mission Hills, Bankers Hill and Balboa Park to the south, University Heights to the north, and North Park to the east. Hillcrest has easy access to the 163 Freeway which runs through it from north to south.


     

    Demographics

    Hillcrest is a culturally diverse neighborhood, though it is predominately white (57%) non-married people with at least a college degree. It is a heavily and densely populated area, and is also known as a hub for the San Diego LGBT community.

    The median household income in Hillcrest is $74,500 per household.


     

    Geography

    The geography of Hillcrest is relatively flat, making it ideal for residential and business areas. The exception is a large ridge on the neighborhoods western edge, featuring coveted homes with views of Downtown San Diego and the Pacific Ocean.


     

    Real Estate Market

    The Hillcrest real estate market is heavily gentrified and becomes more so with each passing year. The area is highly developed, and densely developed. Most of the streets are lined with trees, and lower priced homes and rentals are a rarity. Hillcrest offers a wide variety of homes from beautiful older Craftsman style homes and bungalows, as well as many modern homes, condos, and apartment complexes. Parking is a huge problem in Hillcrest, so you would ideal want a home with its own private or assigned parking to avoid the hassle of looking for parking every day.

    Hillcrest has a median home price of $552,000


    General Info

    Hillcrest is a “hip and happening” neighborhood, that is known for its tolerance and acceptance. Densely populated and with many local businesses this neighborhood is known for its hustle an bustle as well and abundance of local eateries, breweries, and nightlife. Hillcrest is a very walk able neighborhood, and that is a good thing, since the parking here is some of the worst in the city. But if you are looking for a neighborhood that is at the center of all that is exciting, Hillcrest just might be for you.
