San Diego is a large and diverse area with many varied neighborhoods within its borders. But which one is right for you to call home?

This week on the San Diego Real Estate BLOG, we continue our series of BLOGS that will look at each of these neighborhoods in turn to help you decide which is the best fit for you as search for your San Diego Dream Home!!!

Today we head west from Mission Hills, to Old Town, California’s Original European Settlement.




Old Town is bordered to the North by Interstate 8, Interstate 5 to the West, Mission Hills to the East, and Bunker Hill to the South. Old Town San Diego is the birth place of modern day San Diego, and as such is central to almost everything.



Mission Hills is a predominately white (85%) neighborhood made up of mostly married people with at least a college degree.

The median household income in Mission Hills is $93,750 per household.



Old Town is relatively flat, with some gentle rolling hills as you head to the eastern side of the neighborhood near Heritage Park, making it ideal for a residential neighborhood.


Real Estate Market

Old Town is an extremely small neighborhood and most of the homes are either town homes or apartments. There are only a few single family detached homes, and they don’t become available very often as Old Town in considered one of the nicest neighborhoods in all of San Diego. While there is some new construction, most of it is condos and apartments, with only a few single family homes. The single family detached homes here tend to be either Craftsman, Victorian, or Spanish and are highly sought after as the neighborhood is meticulously maintained by local businesses (especially near Heritage Park), and the homes hold their value even better than the rest of San Diego, which is saying something.

Old Town has a median home price of $1,015,730.

Old Town was once the beating heart of San Diego, and that legacy lingers to this day. Centrally located to all that the larger San Diego area has to offer, Old Town is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the city. Here you will find a thriving, multi-cultural community, an upscale housing marketing with everything from several story apartment buildings to meticulously restored homes of great historical value, and a bustling business district complete with some of the best shops, boutique, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops anywhere in the city. Old Town is also home to California’s most visited National Park.
